In February 2018, Refugees Welcome Haringey re-launched as Haringey Welcome. Whilst we continue to support refugees arriving in the borough, our new campaign focuses on the government’s current hostile environment policy and it’s specific manifestations in the area.  Head over to our new website and sign our pledge to make our Borough an inclusive, just and safer place for all migrants. You can find our new site here:

Do you or friends of yours own a property in Haringey that you could let out to refugees?

Are you part of a community or faith group where you could spread the word that private landlords are desperately needed to help deal with the refugee crisis? Are you a letting agent that has suitable properties that could be used to house refugee families? If so, please contact us at or alternatively find more information here on the Council’s website.

Refugees coming to Haringey via the VPR scheme will be placed in private rental properties, rather than social housing, but available housing is very limited in Haringey, so a big part of our campaign is finding private landlords who would be prepared to rent out their properties to refugees. Properties are rented at Local Housing Allowance rates. Rent will be paid to secure accommodation and hold it vacant in advance of the families arriving, and is guaranteed for the first twelve months of the tenancy. People coming through the scheme will be eligible to work and claim benefits.

Please ask anyone wishing to pledge a property to a refugee family to get in touch with us at They can also contact Haringey Council directly for further information and to register their interest.
